The Fox property is an early-stage exploration property totaling 3,636 hectares of moderate topographic relief between Francois Lake and Binta Lake, southwest of the community of Fraser Lake. Prospecting in 2010 and 2013 recognized elevated Au-Ag grades from rock chips across a 1 km x 1 km area. Follow up sampling (including channel sampling, rock sampling and soil sampling), geological mapping, and prospecting has since expanded on these results.
Gold and silver grades at Fox are associated with druse quartz stockworks hosted by felsic volcanic units outcropping in areas of area of higher relief. Mineralized showings at Fox lie within an NNE trending ‘corridor’ of Eocene felsic volcanic units (Ootsa Lake Group) bracketed to the east and west by andesitic volcaniclastics of presumed Jurassic age (Hazelton Group).
Six groups of mineralized of outcrops are currently recognized at Fox (Zones A to E) and cover an area of approximately 1.5 km x 1.5 km. Mineralization is seen in silicified, sericitized and pyrite altered rocks. A 2014 program of hand trenching and channel sampling returned highly anomalous results from all six mineralized zones, with a best result of 7,342 gpt silver and 45.3 gpt gold over a length of 1 meter from quartz stockwork in C Zone.
In addition to channel sampling and soil sampling, a limited survey of ground VLF-EM was completed at Fox in recent years. Follow up work for this project is highly recommended, drilling of key outcrops is a priority for Kootenay Silver.
The company has filed Notice of Work applications in advance of a first ever drilling program on Fox scheduled for spring/summer 2023.
